Guildford, UK–Guildford Roofing Contractors, a trusted roofing contractor with over 30 years of experience, recently released their findings on cities with the leakiest roofs in the UK. The data was collected from various different sources, then aggregated to give each city a score based on several factors. The data was analysed and compiled into a report to give consumers and roofing contractors a deeper understanding of weather conditions and their effect on the longevity of roofs in the UK.
The first set of data comes from the Met Office. Guildford Roofing Contractors used publicly available information such as rainfall per year to get a better understanding of what locations in the UK were subject to heavier rainfall on average. As rain falls on roofs, they become damaged and slowly begin to wear out. As a result of this, roofing contractors are more in demand in these locations, contributing to the “leakiness” factor that the company has used to determine the cities with the highest leak rates.
Next, the company used search volume data for related terms such as “roof repair” and “leaking roof”. This data was collected from Google Keyword Planner which gives estimates on the number of people searching for given terms. This data was then compared to the average population of each city. By dividing the population by term search volume, Guildford Roofing Contractors gave each city a “demand average” score which represents the demand for roofing contractors.
By combining these two sets of data, Guildford Roofing Contractors could easily rank UK cities by their leakiness factor. Results showed that areas in the north of the UK, such as Scotland, had high rainfall volume and demand for roofing contractors. However, it was ultimately Truro, Cornwall, that came first in the leakiness ranking, followed by Newry, Leeds, Preston, and Plymouth. The least leaky roofs in the UK were, Cambridge, Chelmsford, London, Wells, and Kingston upon Hull.
